Stay
About the destination: Leh, a high desert city in the Himalayas, is the capital of the Leh region in the state of Jammy and Kashmir in northern India. It was originally a commercial caravan stop and is famous for its Buddhist sites and the nearby hiking areas. The huge palace of Leh of the seventeenth century, designed according to the old house of the Dalai Lama (the Potala Palace in Tibet), overlooks the bazaar of the ancient city and its labyrinthine streets. With panoramic views from a peak over the city, Namgyal Tsemo is a monastery dating from about 1430 with a gold-plated Buddha statue. Also known for its views is Shanti Stupa, a contemporary Buddhist shrine with a white spire. Other monasteries in the area include Thikse, a group of buildings at different levels of the slopes with Tibetan shrines, statues and other pieces of art. South of Leh, the Indus River and its tributary the Zanskar River are known for the descent of rapids in runs through spectacular gorges. Hiking expeditions reach great heights in the Indus Valley area, including the Khardung La Pass at 5,359 m.

4. Nubra Valley
Stay
About the destination: Nubra is a subdivision and a tehsil in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. Its inhabited areas form a tri-armed valley cut by the Nubra and Shyok rivers. Its Tibetan name Ldumra means "the valley of flowers". Diskit, the headquarters of Nubra, is about 150 km north from Leh, the capital of Ladakh. The Shyok River meets the Nubra or Siachan River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges. The Shyok river is a tributary of the Indus river. The average altitude of the valley is about 10,000 ft. i.e. 3048 metres above the sea level. The common way to access this valley is to travel over the Khardung La pass from Leh town. Foreign nationals are required to get a Protected area permit to visit the Nubra Valley. Since 1 April 2017 Indian citizens are also required to get an Inner Line Permit to visit the valley.

5. Pangong Tso
Stay
About the destination: Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake is an endorheic lake spanning eastern Ladakh and West Tibet situated at an elevation of 4,225 m (13,862 ft). It is 134 km (83 mi) long and divided into five sublakes, called Pangong Tso, Tso Nyak, Rum Tso (twin lakes) and Nyak Tso. Approximately 50% of the length of the overall lake lies within Tibet, 40% in Ladakh and the rest is disputed but controlled by China. The lake is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide at its broadest point. All together it covers 604 km2. During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water. It has a land-locked basin separated from the Indus River basin by a small elevated ridge, but is believed to have been part of the latter in prehistoric times. The lake is in the process of being identified under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance. This will be the first trans-boundary wetland in South Asia under the convention.
